We are proud to recognize Andrea Soto as one of our outstanding team members as this quarter’s Linguist of the Quarter for the first Quarter 2026. Since joining Global Language Strategies in January 2025, Andrea has made a significant impact as a freelance translator, editor, and desktop publishing (DTP) specialist. With over a year supporting GLS and nearly a decade of experience in the language services industry she brings both depth and adaptability to every project. In addition to translation and editing, she expanded her expertise to include captioning, subtitling, and desktop publishing, demonstrating a strong commitment to growth in an evolving field.

The journey into language services began with a deep curiosity about language acquisition and a genuine love of learning. Growing up in Puerto Rico, where English and Spanish seamlessly intersect in everyday life, Andrea developed a strong awareness of how critical language is for accessibility. This perspective shaped her career path and continues to drive her work today: ensuring that information is not only translated, but made clear, accurate, and accessible to all audiences.

Professionally, her background is both rich and diverse. While earning a bachelor’s degree in English literature, Andrea gained experience in hospitality and worked as an English/Spanish instructor before obtaining a specialized certificate in translation. She later founded her own freelance practice, providing language services to a wide range of clients including local businesses and nonprofits.

The defining moment in her career came when she supported FEMA’s Hurricane María response efforts in Puerto Rico. As part of the translation team within the agency’s training branch, she contributed to critical disaster recovery communications—an experience that led to further collaborations across government and private sectors. Her portfolio now spans industries such as healthcare, education, banking, IT, legal services, and more. Andrea has also earned certifications in machine translation post-editing (MTPE) and subtitling, embracing new technologies to enhance both efficiency and quality in their work.

Outside of work, she values rest and balance, something she believes is essential to performing at her best. She enjoys traveling to visit friends and attending concerts of her favorite K-pop artists, as well as exploring new recipes in the kitchen. An animal lover at heart, she previously fostered cats and now shares her home with two rescued companions, Jasper and Kiiro.
