We are excited to recognize Karen Aponte Acevedo as our Linguist in the Spotlight for the 2nd Quarter 2026. Since joining Global Language Strategies in September 2025, she has brought a wealth of experience, dedication, and enthusiasm to our team. With more than 12 years in the language services industry, her diverse background and passion for communication have made a meaningful impact on both our colleagues and our clients.

Her love of languages began long before her professional career. Growing up bilingual in Puerto Rico, learning English was a natural part of her education. However, it was music that first inspired her fascination with language.

She originally entered college intending to major in vocal performance. As part of her degree requirements, she chose to study Italian because of its strong connection to classical music. What started as a requirement quickly became a passion. Karen found herself captivated by the structure, grammar, and cultural richness of learning a new language, ultimately leading her to change her major to Foreign Languages.

While completing her bachelors degree, she enrolled in an Introduction to Translation course that changed the direction of her career. That experience inspired her to pursue a Master's degree in Translation, laying the foundation for the successful career she enjoys today.

Over the years, she has continued to expand her expertise by taking on a variety of roles throughout the language services industry. From translation and editing to project management and desktop publishing, quality assurance specialist, and project coordinator, each position has strengthened her understanding of the industry and reinforced her commitment to quality and the collaborative effort required to deliver exceptional language solutions.

When she's not working, she enjoys spending quality time with her family. Whether they're attending church, camping, spending the day at the beach, or simply relaxing at home, those moments help her recharge and bring her best self to work each day.

Above all, she says her most important role isn't her professional one, it's being a mom. She is the proud mother of two energetic, nature-loving, and endlessly curious boys who keep her on her toes and bring joy to every day.
